our story

Our story, gosh where to start! We began life as The Playroom and in more recent times have become part of the Evolve Education Group with a great new name - Active Explorers Central City. This has been such a natural and positive progression for us, where we have retained our personal individuality and identity that makes us special as a centre. Yet we are enabled through all the support and resources provided by a larger company in our ability to continually grow and adapt, ensuring we remain responsive to our centre community needs.

So a little about our journey: Our onsite chef Megan provides nutritious balanced meals & snacks which have been accorded accreditation by Healthy Heart NZ and something which she continues to develop, extend and improve on, taking us all on the journey with her. She ensures each individual tamariki is catered to, right through from young infants to our young children including intolerances and allergies.  The team work hard, taking pride in providing a clean and hygienic environment which is welcoming and fun and where tamariki have opportunities to learn concepts such as taking responsibility, independence, and helping others. You will also find Helen (Our Beautiful Administrator) or Leslyn (Our Friendly Centre Manager) at the front desk with a warm smile and they can let you through our secure key coded entry system to welcome you in person at the front desk.

ERO Report

The Education Review Office (ERO) is the New Zealand government department that evaluates and reports on the education and care of students in schools and early childhood services. ERO’s reports are used by parents, teachers, early childhood education managers, school principals and trustees, and by government policy makers.

Early childhood services are reviewed on average once every three years. Reviews will be more frequent where the performance of a school or centre is poor and there are risks to the education and safety of the students, or less frequent where a school has a stable reporting history and demonstrates good self-review processes and use of its assessment information.

You can read our centre’s ERO review here.

  • I was nervous about making the right decision for my children in terms of childcare, I don't know what parent isn't. But Active Explorers Central City provide such a loving environment that I felt secure in the knowledge my children were with people who really cared for them - both teachers as well as support staff. Best of all they provided my children with nutritious meals so I knew they were getting all the vitamins they needed - we all know how hard it can be to get them to eat their vegetables at home! I could also rest assured knowing they were having a ball while mum and dad were at work. Isn't that what you want as a parent?

  • I currently have two children attending Active Explorers Central City. The staff have always been so welcoming, accommodating and thoroughly professional. We have really appreciated how the teachers tell us about our child's day and keep us up to date with their playing, learning and any funny moments that have happened. My children come home talking about their teachers and their friends at pre-school, singing songs they have learnt and in our case, lots of art work! That is the biggest recommendation - that our children love it there!
