Our Rooms

Active Explorers Hokitika has three separate rooms, enabling us to deliver age appropriate experiences for children at each different age and stage.

Ruma Kowhai – 3 months to 2 years

Our nursery provides a warm, calm and relaxing home away from home for our youngest taonga. While maintaining excellent teacher to child ratios our teachers are available to celebrate the successes of every child as an individual while sharing in the joy of growth of our infants and young toddlers alongside their whānau.

Daily Routine

Our routine in Ruma Kowhai celebrates the uniqueness of every child and is dedicated to following the individual routines and cues of tamariki. While following children’s individual routines around nappies, bottles and sleep schedules, tamariki are supported to come together to share mealtimes, engage in active exploration of their environment and play moments with and alongside their peers.

Ruma Rata – 2 years to 3.5 years

Ruma Rata is our play and learning environment for our toddler tamariki. Our excellent teacher to child ratios encourage tamariki to enquire and explore their environment at their own pace and support individualised learning goals.

Daily rituals and routines encourage tamariki to develop increasing independence skills while engaging in active exploration and play moments with and alongside others. Tamariki have opportunities throughout the day to engage in meaningful shared moments alongside others through kai routines and intentional teaching moments while having the freedom to explore and enquire in their environment at their own pace.
