Our Story

Active Explorers Blockhouse Bay is a purpose-built centre, licensed for 61 children. We aim at providing a home away from home feeling for all our Tamariki.

Under Two’s - We have a spacious Under Two’s area where children are nurtured and cared for by the passionate teachers. Through the Primary care giving system, we make sure that all infants/toddlers needs are catered for and the well-being and development of all the children are given high importance. They have a beautiful outdoor area which provides children a natural setting to play and learn.

Over Two’s - The Over two’s area comprises of mixed age group of 2-5-year olds. We highly regard the Maori context of Tuakana/teina in building relationships between older and younger children.  This gives children the opportunity to play and learn alongside each other and wonderful learning experience for the older children to take responsibilities and care for their younger friends The Over two’s outdoor area has a very natural setting for children to explore their physical, social, cognitive and aesthetic skills.

School readiness programme - We constantly work towards improving our School readiness program and we provide enriching learning experiences for children to become confident and competent learners.

We are very proud of our family atmosphere and passionate and competent teachers who always work hard to provide meaningful learning opportunities and efficient care for the children.

ERO Report

The Education Review Office (ERO) is the New Zealand government department that evaluates and reports on the education and care of students in schools and early childhood services. ERO’s reports are used by parents, teachers, early childhood education managers, school principals and trustees, and by government policy makers.

Early childhood services are reviewed on average once every three years. Reviews will be more frequent where the performance of a school or centre is poor and there are risks to the education and safety of the students, or less frequent where a school has a stable reporting history and demonstrates good self-review processes and use of its assessment information.

You can read our centre’s ERO review here.
