What We Do
Active Explorers Lower Hutt Central is a place where children and their whanau experience manaakitanga, it is warm, welcoming and a sense of belonging is established.
Our diverse Educators believe that secure relationships are the fundamental foundation to learning. There is emphasis on strengthening self-esteem through respectful interactions, appreciation of views, opinions and enriching cultural identity and wairua.
The rich learning environment embraces tamariki as individuals, challenges their thoughts and ideas and encourages a passion to explore. There is access to learning equipment, materials and tools.
Tamariki’s creations and contributions are valued, educators encourage and role model expression through media and materials. Displays of arts, crafts and ideas are visual throughout the centre. Care and thought is emphasized when presenting these.
Te Whariki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum guides educators while concepts of RIE and Reggio Emilia theories are reflected in practices, thinking and on-going professional learning. Principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te reo, tikanga and kaupapa Maori are woven into daily practices. Educators acknowledge our multicultural community and value all cultures, religions and beliefs.
